The food was nice but lacked flavour. Good selection on the menu. Breakfast was a little hectic as the full English was missing several items so had to ask for them to be bough out separately by which point the rest of the food was cold

We booked the Waterhead Inn for two reasons - the first for location and the second because they are dog friendly. The location is superb being right on the lake front, the views were phenomenal. We barely used our car once there. We found a quick 15 minute walk into the centre of Ambleside through Borrans Park, used the vast and ever reliable bus service into Grasmere and took a boat ride to Bowness from the pier right outside the hotel. The room was a good size and comfortable. We took advantage of the bonus offer....if you choose not to have your room serviced, you can claim a free drink for each guest instead, so a nice glass of wine for my husband and I each night, whilst being able to ask for fresh towels etc as needed. Our dog Charlie was made very welcome by all staff. He enjoyed lots of fuss, treats and a sausage for breakfast. Our breakfasts were equally delicious!! We enjoyed our four night stay and will hopefully be back soon!

Our room was a premium view of the lake and it was perfect with such a beautiful view. The room was spacious as we were travelling with our dog and everything was clean. The breakfast was great as always (we have stayed 3 times now). Ryan was excellent and took very good care of us throughout our stay, thank you!

We booked a basic room but it was beautiful. Very smartly decorated and perfectly clean. It even came with a gorgeous lake view. The food was superb. Will definitely stay again

The staff were absolutely lovely and so accommodating, the price for food in the bar was reasonable and the location was amazing. Straight opposite the pier to get the boat and some fantastic photos. The room was lovely and spacious, very clean and the beds were super comfy. We will happily visit again

Positives: The place was clean, looks good. Our room was as advertised and overall was very good. Facilities were available: ironing table and iron, local tv channels, tea and coffee and kettle. Extra pillows were available for the sofa bed for the child. Morning breakfast was good and the host in the morning was very friendly. They did not have Halal options but we managed with vegetarian options. Car park was available (limited). Negatives: There was no clear signage for where/how to access the property. The reception team stood at the bar area, that confused us where to go/who to approach. After check-in and payment, there was no escort/guide for us to our room, especially being in another building than the reception. The staff made no effort to guide us although we asked for guidance 3 times. All they did was repeating the instructions. On the 3rd attempt, I asked for them to show us where to go, and the door that I was supposed to go in was not opening with the key they gave me. When I tried to explain that I tried this door but the key was not working, the staff member accused me for being "aggressive", which I was not, not even remotely. He came back later and clarified the difference in point of view, and he was busy with other customers checking in. But this was unpleasant experience at the start of a holiday. The sofa bed did not have bed sheet, only mattress topper. No extra cover/duvet for it. No phone in the room to call the reception for an extra cover. The in room temperature controls were not working, although the room was warm.
